Monthly snapshots of what I am playing, revisiting, and thinking about as I go.

The UK has been having a horrendous heat wave. I don't do well in the heat and this last week has been horrible. I also learned about heat induced panic attacks the hard way, which has meant I have napped a lot and not done too much gaming at the end of the month. But earlier in the month we had Steam Next fest and while I recommended a few demos I want to include the one that I forgot the time on while playing and it could become my new "Cult of the Lamb" esque game. There was the gaming club as well of course and as part of Good Game Lobby Monthly Gaming Club we were playing Tunic this month.

This year's New Game Plus took place across 16th and 17th April as part of the London Games Festival. It was the second time the event ran and it felt noticeably bigger and more polished than last year, thanks in part to the new venue and a roomier layout. Even so, there was still a bit of that scrappy indie charm that made the first edition so memorable. I only attended on the Thursday but had a great time playing some new to me games and meeting the lovely developers of all of these great games. The show included a couple of stages as well with talks throughout the days. One smaller stage was aimed at students with talks on imposter syndrome for example and stories by people in the industry. The other stage was bigger and had more interviews with developers, such as Peter Molyneux. This was a lovely talk, very open and honest and a lot more positive about the future than I would have expected.

Eeek this year I decided to go to Gamescom in Köln. It seemed like a sort of logical next step in terms of gaming events, however I had no idea how big it actually is, so maybe I should have tried to stay more local first. This is a bit of an overview blog, and I will go into details for the indie games I played or liked the look of in a separate post in more detail. :)
